I tifosi del Real Madrid hanno trovato nelle statistiche, un alleato nell’avvicinamento all’esordio stagionale di Champions League. Il pessimo inizio stagionale culminato nella sconfitta di Siviglia, ha minato le certezze e l’ottimismo in casa madrilena. Partire male in campionato però, non è sinonimo di stagione fallimentare, nel 2001 infatti i ragazzi, all’epoca allenati da Vicente Del Bosque, infilarono nella Liga una serie di risultati decisamente preoccupanti, sconfitta sui campi di Valencia e Villareal e pareggio interno contro Malaga. Quell’anno tuttavia, la stagione si concluse con il trionfo di Zidane e compagni, i quali nella notte di Hampden Park alzarono la nona Champions League. Quale miglior dato dunque, in attesa di vedere come la squadra di Mourinho esordirà nella massima competizione europea per club contro il Manchester City.
