Il tecnico del Sunderland ha fatto il più classici dei fioretti, promettendo ai propri tifosi di fare un bagno nel fiume Wear, che bagna la città inglese, in caso di salvezza: “Non so nuotare, ma il giorno in cui ci salveremo, mi tufferò nel fiume. Questo è sicuro: voglio scoprire se so camminare sulle acque. Voglio essere in grado di farlo. Sono già retrocesso con il West Ham nonostante avessimo 11 giocatori di qualità. Ma era un problema di mercoledì libero, domenica libera, martedì come si vuole: puoi avere i migliori giocatori ma se non lavori duro, puoi anche retrocedere…”
